You should probably modify the install path to use /usr/local/bin anyway. We can't help if you give us no clue about what you are failing to install. and I have tried every trick i can fidn to install it, but none seem to work. but for it to run it needs that file in the /usr/bin folder. Literally we are a college and our MAC labs can have any of 2000 students could technically go in and log in Thats the problem, we dont want 20 or 50 different scripts, that are set up for each person. Frankly you don't need third party binaries to mount network disks, the OS does it already, so post info about the tool you used if you really want to pursue that method. The correct location is /usr/local or within your home directories. The password need to be in the keychain if it needs to be saved.Īs for writing to /usr/bin, that belongs to the OS, you can't save data there because the OS prevents it. You well need to test & see what works for you - one word of advice, avoid any scripts that save the password - it is terrible for security & difficult to manage. Personally I have found that mounting network disks via scripts are never really flawless & can fail (especially if multiple users are logged in - disable fast user switching to stop that). Each user would have their own script to mount the desired network shares.Īpplescript & shell scripts can also do it too.
Really what I am trying to accomplish is a less labor intensive way of doing this.It sounds like you need to make a login item that runs when a user logs in. And MDM type solutions aren't feasible to implement for just this one project. Each of those require a lot of manual labor though. I know you can also add them in startup items, but the "hide" option still seems to open finder at each login.
The previous IT guy made shortcuts to each share and placed them in the users' docks so that it would reconnect when clicked.
What are my options for the new server paths? I am implementing a new NAS at a client that is 50/50 win/mac. Even direction to some resources would be appreciated.
My apologies if this comes across as if I am just asking for an answer or haven't done my research, but I am at a loss on where to even start.
